Introduction to EMDR Therapy
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a form of therapy that helps people heal from trauma or other distressing life events. EMDR therapy has been extensively researched and consistently demonstrated effectiveness for trauma. EMDR therapy is different from other forms of therapy as it does not require talking in detail about the distressing issues or homework between sessions. EMDR therapy, rather than focusing on changing emotions, thoughts, or behaviors resulting from the distressing issue, allows the brain to resume its natural healing process. EMDR therapy is designed to resolve unprocessed traumatic memories in the brain. www.EMDRIA.org
